Louisiana Assistant Warden Dies in Car Accident

Peggy Sylvester, an assistant warden with the Opelousas Police Department died in a crash around 4:45 a.m Sunday morning while on her way going to work.

According to KLFY-TV, Peggy Sylvester was trying to pass a car in her 2007 Ford Expedition Police SUV on Highway 31 when she lost control of her vehicle. Her ford expedition left the road and went through a ditch and then hit a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peggy was responsible for booking inmates, making sure they were put in the fingerprint system and that the inmates were fed. She had a career in law enforcement for 14 years.

Sylvester served three years with the Opelousas Police Department. Her previous employment was with the Eunice Police Department and for the St. Landry Sheriff's Office.

Peggy Sylvester, 55 years old is survived by both her parents, her fiancée Sgt. Rodney May of the Opelousas Police Department and her three children. Amber, her youngest daughter is a junior police officer and her goal is to become an officer.
