According to the affidavit, the boy's uncle called police after seeing the photos of his nephew on Facebook. It showed the boy crying while wearing the dress and makeup, police said.
When police spoke to the boy, he confirmed that he'd been forced to wear a dress by "Keith," later identified as Keith Driscoll, Prado's boyfriend and landlord. Prado allegedly called the boy “Glenda†while he had the dress on. He was then forced to go outside so he could be ridiculed by others.
According to the affidavit, the boy was "visibly upset" speaking about the incident. He told police he was afraid of Driscoll. The mother told police that it was Driscoll's idea of shaming the boy because he wets and soils himself. "She stated Driscoll came up with the idea and that she seeks his advice when she is frustrated and does not know what else to do as far as getting [the boy's] attention," the affidavit stated.
She admitted to taking photos of her son and posting them online, police said. Prado also told authorities she went along with Driscoll’s idea “because she did not want to cause problems and ruin her living situation.â€
Officials from the state Department of Children and Families said they have investigated Prado for abuse allegations in the past. The boy and his two siblings have been taken out of Prado’s home and placed in the custody of the grandmother.
The grandmother attributed the incident to a documented medical condition, and said the bed wetting isn't his fault. “It will get better,†the grandmother told the child. “I promise.â€
The mother was charged with cruelty toward a child and infliction of physical or mental injury. Driscoll was charged with felony aggravated child abuse.
