Authorities are investigating the death of a young mother of four young children who was found shot to death inside her home in Spanaway, Washington.
Jennifer Reichardt, 28, was found dead Tuesday at her home with her four children locked inside.
Police responded to the scene after a neighbor called 911 saying they believed something terrible was going on in the home.
The kids wouldn't open the front door, so police forced their way inside the home and found the mother's body.
"The four small children apparently were in the home when she was killed, but they were unharmed and were still there when deputies arrived", said Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
The children, three girls and a boy between the ages of 1 and 7, were taken to a neighbor's home while they waited for Child Protective Services to arrive.
Investigators have interviewed the 7-year-old girl to see what she knows. Troyer said the victim died of trauma but he did not elaborate.
According to court records, the victim was divorcing her husband of seven years and filed for an emergency restraining order against him back in July.
"We have been to this residence multiple times before. There is a history of domestic violence there. The male has been in jail before. There is a restraining order in place," said Troyer.
Troyer said authorities have spoken with the estranged husband, and at this time he is not considered a suspect.
“It’s a suspicious death,†Troyer said. “With the history, we’re taking a look at everybody. We’re not ruling anybody in or out at this point. We found him, we talked to him, and we’re moving forward with the investigation.â€
