Police were searching Wednesday for a group of men who a attacked two gay men in Chelsea.
Authorities say the two victims, ages 27 and 53, had just left the Chelsea Cinemas on W. 23rd St. shortly after midnight reportedly holding hands when two men approached them at the corner of W. 24th St. and Ninth Ave. “What are you looking at, f----t?†one of the men asked, according to a police source.
The two victims shocked by the hateful words defended themselves. An argument began among the four men, however the two victims were quickly outnumbered when four other men joined their attackers, officials said.
The group of men ultimately ran off, leaving one of the victims with a bruised face, police said. The second man needed seven stitches to close the gash on his chin.
Both victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where they were treated and released, officials said.
Police said they did get descriptions of the attackers from the two victims and also people that witnessed the attack.
I will never understand why some people think it's ok to beat up on others just for any reason, said a witness.
