NYPD Officer Saves Choking Driver

A New York City police officer on a Bronx highway saved a female motorist choking on a throat lozenge.

The dramatic rescue was caught on the officer's dash cam.

Officer Gregory Zakoscielny was overseeing speed checks on the Bronx River Parkway when he spotted the Ford Taurus driving slow in the right lane, according to the NYPD.

He pulled up behind the vehicle. He got out and walked up to the Taurus and he immediately saw the driver was in distress, police said.

Officer Zakoscielny noticed the driver was having difficulty breathing and holding her throat.
"Are you choking? You're choking?" the officer is heard saying in the video. "Yes, sir," the driver answered.

He told the woman to step out of her car and then performed the Heimlich maneuver on her, which dislodged the lozenge blocking the 49-year-old woman's airway.

The driver seemed to be fine after the officer performed the Heimlich. Just before the video ends, you can hear the officer call for an ambulance.

There was a video like this posted not that long ago. Thinking about it, I wonder just how often stuff like this happens on a regular basis and just how close she (and others) were to actually dying. Crazy stuff.

No, more like negative sensationalism sells newspapers and always will. This officer is a hero for what he did, and I'm sure that lady will be thankful for the rest of her life.
