Oakland Seeking To Stop Cooperation With Immigration Agency

Officials on the Oakland City council's public safety committee have voted unanimously to take away the police department's authorization to take part in task forces that are directed through the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

"Tangling local law enforcement with ICE is a threat to civil rights and safety of all people," stated a representative of the ACLU of Northern California.

Deputy Chief Daniel Outlaw responding by saying the task forces working with federal agencies are essential to support solving significant crimes in the city of Oakland.
