An off duty police officer who was heading to work was attacked in Harlem, New York Wednesday morning. The 43-year old NYPD sergeant, who was dressed in plain clothes, stopped in Dunkin' Donuts on her way to the NYPD Housing Bureau's PSA 5, located at 221 East 123rd Street in Harlem.

"Sergeants don't wear uniforms to work, so she was in plain clothes. It is not known whether her shield was visible," police reported.

Authorities say the sergeant had just left Dunkin' Donuts when she heard incoherent mumbling from a person that was behind her. An emotionally unstable male allegedly punched and kicked the sergeant, knocking her to the ground. While the officer was on the ground the suspect allegedly punched her again.

She was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital. Authorities say she suffered bruises to her head, and received five stitches for the laceration under her left eye.

Authorities say they have have a person of interest in custody.

PS will update this story as more information becomes available.

This is another case of backlash. With all of the killing the police have been doing lately, it's starting to catch up with them. This woman could be perfectly innocent but she'll pay for it because of what her colleagues are doing all across the country.
