Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Jason Gates is being hailed a hero for saving the life of a driver who was choking.

The incident began around 11:30 am on Saturday when Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Jason Gates pulled a woman over for a red light violation in the 4100 block of South Burdick Street.

As the approached the car he discovered the driver was choking on food and struggling to breath.
He then administers a couple of back blows. Then proceeded with the Heimlich maneuver. Within a couple of seconds the food was dislodged and the woman started to breath again.

The woman started to cry. She thanked and hugged Officer Gates for saving her life.

This is another wonderful act from the police. Officer Jason is very observant to have noticed this woman chocking. He saved the life of this person and prevented a tragedy that could have affected her loved ones. Good people make a difference; we need more of them. I tip my hat to you Officer Jason.

One of the "in the right place at the right time" kind of stories. Great to see the lady is okay. Also, good job to the officer for actually taking it seriously and no blowing it off for a fake way to get out of something like a red light.
