Police Officer Robert J. Johnson was killed Tuesday, July 4, 2017 when he was helping a motorist.

Authorities said Officer Johnson had just finished his shift and was heading home. He had stopped to assist a motorist who struck a deer with their car. He was walking back to his patrol car when a vehicle driving the opposite direction struck him, which killed him instantly.

Johnson was a retired Gloversville officer of twenty years of service. After that he began working part time for the Fulton County Sheriff’s office and later on worked for the Northville Police Department.

Officer Johnson leaves behind his wife, several daughters, and a son.
