As far as I know, police cruisers are loaded with a shotgun in the cab of the vehicle as well as an AR-15 in the trunk. This combined with their service revolver and other non-lethal deterrents make for quite the intimidating loadout. Is the rifle and the shotgun really necessary for everyday carry for police? Wouldn't situations where an officer would need that kind of firepower be more under SWAT's domain? Why or why not?
