The woman who police say viciously attacked a New Jersey mother last Tuesday in front of her two-year-old son has turned herself in. Over the weekend, Harris' family asked her to surrender to police.
Following an extensive search for the suspect, Latia Harris, turned herself in Monday around 7 p.m. The suspect came in without an attorney. When reporters questioned her, she did not have any comments.
"I believe Harris had no other choice than to turn herself in under her own terms as it would only be a matter of time before she was captured," said Salem Police Chief John Pelura.
Police had been looking for the suspect after a cellphone video surfaced on Facebook. The video has gone viral on the Internet. In the video you can see the suspect brutally attack the victim in front of the toddler. In the video you can also see a bunch of people recording the incident with their cellphones. Police say no one bothered to call 911. They said the two year old son was the only one who tried to stop the attack, the others were only interested in taping the beating.
In the video you can hear the suspect allegedly yell at the mother “You better get your son before I kick him in the face too.â€

The victim and the suspect worked together. The victim told authorities that Harris accused her of telling rumors about her and their manager. Harris believed the gossip would get her fired.
The victim suffered a mild concussion, a broken nose and has many contusions to her face.
Harris is being held on $35,000 bail in the Salem County Correctional Facility. She is charged with aggravated assault and making terroristic threats to harm the little boy.
