Mason Zisette, a 16-year-old Manhattan Beach boy died while riding on a Los Angeles double-decker tour bus. Zisette and forty of his friends were celebrating a classmates birthday on Thursday when the tragic accident happened.
The kids were on the open air top level of the tour bus. They were standing up and would duck down when they would spot an overpasses ahead.
The victim was reportedly seen dancing and not looking ahead when he struck the bridge. Zisette’s head and hands were struck by overpass, said authorities.
Bowen Boullianne, a passenger and one of Zisette’s closest friends witnessed the horrific accident.
“He hit his hands first on the overpass and got whiplash from the impact. It cranked his head back and he hit the top part of the bus, the glass section,†Boullianne said. “He hit the back of his head really hard. He was instantly knocked out.â€
The bus immediately pulled over as the passengers called 911. Earlier reports said the victim was thrown off the bus after hitting the concrete overpass. Gage Stroman, a passenger on the bus said that was not the case.
"That makes it sound like he was knocked off the bus onto the 405," said Stroman. "That's not what happened. We took him downstairs on the bus and that's where he stayed until help arrived," said Stroman. He told police he was sitting near the Zisette when the accident happened, but did not see him it the overpass. "I heard a scream and looked up and he was down," Stroman said. ‘We all ran over to him.’
Adult chaperones were inside on the lower level, according to police. Some of the passengers parents are asking what were the chaperones doing. They want to know why they would allow the kids to stand up and dance on the moving bus.
“These parents were beyond irresponsible,†Boullianne said. “They didn’t know how to handle the situation well.
The parents of Mason Zisette took their son off life support Saturday in the hospital.
Police are still investigating the accident. The tour bus company could not be reached for comment.

This is a sad ending for this young boy; young people do not understand the risks involved in the things they do. Maybe the chaperons should have been stricter to ensure that the teens did not go to the top of the bus. May the loved ones of this teen find peace as they grief for him.
