A veteran Texas police officer was shot in the leg while serving a capital murder warrant at the house of a man suspected in the death of 6-year-old Alanna Gallagher.

Six-year-old Alanna Gallagher's body was found July 1 wrapped in a tarp about a mile from her house. A spokesperson said the girl was sexually assaulted and suffocated.

On July 23, officers went to serve 17-year-old Tyler Holder the warrant when he allegedly opened fire. A police officer then shot Holder in the head. Holder is still in the hospital recovering.

"The suspect produced a weapon and shots were fired," said Katherine Chaumont, spokesperson for the Dallas FBI.

Detective Charles Lodatto, 45, was released Monday almost a week after being wounded while investigating the death of Alanna, said authorities.

Holder will face a capital murder charge in the death of Alanna and an attempted capital murder charge in the shooting of Det. Charles Lodatto.
