Ohio State Highway Patrol is mourning the loss of Trooper Kenneth Velez, who was struck and killed Thursday afternoon.

Trooper Kenneth Velez, 48, was conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 90 when we was hit while standing outside of his vehicle.

“This is a tragedy for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety,†said Colonel Paul Pride said. “Our prayers go out to the Velez family during this difficult time.â€

Trooper Kenneth Velez is survived by his three children.
