A 35-year-old Florida Highway Patrolman is in serious condition following a crash Tuesday in Sarasota.

According to authorities, Trooper Julio Torres was riding his 1997 Honda motorcycle and heading north on Nottingham Drive around noon when the accident happen.

Officials say as Torres approached the intersection of Melgert Place Tuesday a mechanical failure left him unable to negotiate a turn in the road. The front tire hit a small tree on the side of the road, ejecting Torres of his motorcycle.

According to authorities, they didn't find any skid marks on the road. Which led them to believe it was mechanical failure that left Trooper Torres unable to slow down prior to the crash.

Torres was transported to Blake Medical Center by ambulance. Officials say the cause of the mechanical failure is still under investigation.

I hope he gets better soon, but accidents do happen. I hope similar rides get revised though so that this doesn't happen with other troopers.

Hopefully he'll be able to recover and do his worthwhile job. At the end of the day, these things happen. But you never want to hear about these kinds of things.
