A man and woman were arrested after allegedly posing as police officers.

The incident happened Tuesday morning on the San Diego Freeway in the Fountain Valley area. The suspects tried to pull over an off-duty Irvine sergeant by flashing a blue and red strobe light at the sergeant's vehicle.

“He recognized that the red and blue lights were too dim and did not stop,†a police spokesman said. “He called 911.â€

Authorities said their motive was not clear. Inside the vehicle they found toy weapons, a shotgun with an orange tip, an assault-style rifle and a scope.

Police said it's too early to speculate on their motive in this case, however stated the motives for similar crimes include robbery.

Armando Raul Hernandez-Perez, 26, April Noemi Lopez-Fabian, 20, were booked into Orange County Jail for felony conspiracy and misdemeanor impersonation of a police officer.
