  • An off-duty Darby Borough Police officer and volunteer firefighter with the Yeadon Fire Station was shot and killed inside a Glenolden home on Saturday afternoon. Darby Borough police confirmed that 26-year-old Mark Hudson, a 4-year part time officer with the department and a volunteer firefighter, was killed in what appears to be a domestic incident. He was apparently shot once in the chest in his Glenolden home Saturday with his police issued gun. Officials say Darby Township Police arrived to the home on the 600 block of Magnolia Avenue around 4:25 p.m. Police found the officer with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, and then to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, Darby Borough Council members say Officer Hudson was a class act, cared about his community, and went the extra mile. Walking to the back of the Yeadon Fire Station on Sunday night was enough to make Chief Michael Diienno tear up--looking at the locker-- now draped in black bunting in honor of Firefighter Mark Hudson. Hudson joined the firehouse 10 years ago at age 16.
