Volunteer work

I'm in college right now and working part time. I'm looking to volunteer before I become an officer. Any ideas where I should look?

Some departments have programs for citizens to volunteer and many offer an internship program that you can get credit for school. Then you can get the experience and school credit at the same time.

If you are too busy during school, maybe during the summer when you have more time, you could find time to volunteer with a local department. Summer is a busy time when there are alot events going on.

You can always go into your local Police Department and ask. Having some experience and knowledge from volunteer work within a Police Department will help when you are looking to get hired. You can check within your community. Local shelters, churches will show that you care and are interested. Every little bit helps when it comes to the hiring process.
