What reasons am I allow to speed?

My understand is that if I cam taking a pregnant woman to the hospital I am allowed to break the speed limit, and indeed the police will provide an escort if they see me.

Is that actually true? Also, are there any other reasons that allow speeding (safely)?

They'll most likely call an ambulance here if they catch you speeding to rush to hospital, I think. I guess such emergencies justify speeding if safe and you give signs like constant headlight flashes, emergency lights perhaps, etc.

I feel like it's still breaking the law but they feel you have a reason to break the law. Like, for instance, when you see a baby left in a car and you break the window in order to help the baby. One thing is far more important than enforcing the other.

I would imagine if it were life and death, you had your emergency blinkers on, you were just speeding not driving dangerously they wouldn't do anything. Would depend on the reason you were speeding.

In reference to how it is here,i am allowed to speed if i carry an injured person in a remote place with no access to phones, and thereby an ambulance. We can use our emergency flashlights and the police will note down our vehicle numbers and check in the cameras,to whether it is really a legit case.
If the reason is genuine, then you can break the law.

I don't know if there are specific exceptions written into the law itself, but there are definitely cases where common sense needs to take precedent. In the event of an emergency, I can't see that there is anything wrong with speeding or breaking any other minor laws. I don't think that there is a cop in the worl who would write you a ticket if you were rushing to save someone life or something like that.

It is Ok to break the speed limit when carrying anyone to the hospital, not just a pregnant woman. It would not be advised to break the speed limit when late for a function, however.

It always has to do with the intent of the individual. It has to do with good or evil. Most times our laws have connections to what is morally good or bad. So, in rescuing the baby it is a good intent, even though a few things get broken. Breaking the window for no apparent reason is an evil intent and therefore should bring a severe consequence.

You would think that it would be okay to speed if you are taking someone to the hospital. I know my mother said that a cop let her get away with speeding when she was pregnant with me and my sister. I am not sure if there are reasons when you can actually speed and get away with it though.

I don't think you are ever "allowed" to speed as such, there is no written law that you can break the speed limit if there is a pregnant woman in your car, however you will often find that some offers will have a certain amount of discretion when they pull you over. I know if we see anybody who needs to get to hospital, we will give them a police escort so long as we are able to do so, as it is much safer with the sirens - or we will try to contact an ambulance. Our main priority is to make sure that everybody is safe on the roads, but if somebody needs to get to hospital then that's important, too.

I think we are allowed to speed on emergencies only, medical emergencies I mean, apart from that I think we need to respect the limits.

I was just thinking about this the other day actually. I've never heard of them escorting like that, but it would be pretty cool if they do!
