A female teacher who accepted a plea deal after being accused of having sex with a student has been sentenced to 90-180 months behind bars.
Sarah Raymo, 32, of Essexville, Michigan, was an English language arts intervention specialist at T.L. Handy Middle School.
Raymo, who is married, allegedly had sex with a male student which began when he was 13 years old and continued until he was 15.
Douglas Newcombe, the superintendent, said school officials became aware of the improper situation in January and immediately called law enforcement.
Raymo was arrested on January 14th and arraigned in Bay County District Court. She pleaded guilty in September.
The victim testified in a preliminary examination that he had sex with Raymo six to eight times at the school and in her Essexville home.
Raymo who didn't say anything while she was in court was seen shaking and frequently wiping away tears.
"As a teacher, you're placed in a position of trust over your students," said Bay County Chief Circuit Judge Kenneth W. Schmidt. "That trust was violated when you elected to freely and willingly have sex with one of your students, no matter what the circumstances were surrounding your acceptance of the fact that you were going to have sex with this young man."
In exchange for the guilty pleas, prosecutors agreed to eliminate four of the more serious charges against Raymo.

Wow, only 90- 180 months behind bars????? I'm an educator and I cannot even fathom why teachers commit this act!!! It happens all the time. We are suppose to be role models and be trust worthy individuals in the eyes of our students and families. I hope she gets her max of 15 years....

She is an evil human. She preyed upon some of the most vulnerable. Parents, school administrators, and young students trusted her.
If she only received a 3 year sentence then she would prey upon other children upon release. Our society should not feel sorry for her.

Well, it's a lot of time in jail, but having sex with a 13 year old is something totally absurd, she's there to teach.

That's terrible. That is really messed up. Come on, 15 years is all she's getting? I'm in no mood for jokes. Come on, in 15 years, she'll still be a dirty ole bag soliciting young dudes in front of her house. 25 years is more like it.

I think that some teachers don't feel the responsibility that is to teach kids, they are there to be prepared for society, not to be sexually deviated by teachers.

Thing is, people don't view pedophilia for the male the same as they do for the female. A boy getting his teacher is seen as a trophy to men.

Yeah, you have a point there patty, it's pedophilia even so and it's true, we tend to see sexual activity from men very differently from the female one, but it's a misconception.
